Sunday, 16th May

Sunday 16th May.

Paid bill – 15.60 Euros – very good. Found a self service fuel station and refilled tank. 50 litres after 330 miles. Quite impressive. (6.6 miles per litre, 30 mpg). Even more impressed that the Saga Platinum credit card worked in the machine – means we can budget as planned. Joined the Autoroute, seemed we were going the wrong way, via Dunkirk, but that put us right. Terrible road surface on toll-free autoroute, rattling us to death. Became bored with autoroute and decided to leave and search for a site by signpost only. After a couple of towns, found Laon with a very good municipal site, near a lake and fairly dog friendly. Chatted to John and Chris, couple from Surrey (we think) in a lovely 09 reg Chausson Welcome 75. A layout and size that seemed to suit us. One day. Site fee 16.50 Euros – slightly dearer than the quality site at Guines.
