Skye to Perth

On leaving Skye we back-tracked a little then headed east through the magnificent Cairngorms to join the A9 then travel south to Perth. We were heading for the C&CC site at Scone Palace right on the edge of the racecourse. From the splendid isolation of Skye to the very civilised city of Perth. This was a long but most enjoyable drive with the MH performing well. We stopped on some grass for lunch near Moy which was almost idyllic - it is easy to see why Scotland is so popular with Motorhomers - "wild" camping is permitted - obviously not on cultivated land. The road itself narrows slowly and almost imperceptably, to the extent where a confrontation with large vehicles becomes a tad tricky. Eventually we joined the A9 which is a fast road, dual carriageways in many places, sadly by-passing some fascinating towns like Pitlochry. We eventually drove through Perth to get to Scone Palace. The site itself was superb, with direct access onto the most northerly racecourse in Britain. I still reckon the amenity block on the site was the one to which all others should aspire. A fairly large site, with some mobile homes. We decided to walk from there into Perth. A walk too far. Dog and ourselves all exhausted, but fortunately a bus service back. Should have used that to get into Perth as well. Three nights here.
