Monday, 17th May

Were heading toward Dijon but decided to leave the Autoroute early (again) and search for a site. Wandered into the town of Chaumont, following directions to the Municipal site. First impressions were not improved by the burnt out remains of the reception. The site seemed cramped, busier than you would ever expect for a Monday in May very very French. Site seemed suited to, how can we say, permanent residents. Did not have a good feeling at all and drove off site. Our excuse would have been, if asked, pitches sloped too much for a motorhome. Visited Leclercs for fuel – consumption a bit heavier this time. 63 litres after 355 miles (5.63 miles per litre, 25.6 mpg). Back to the search. Headed again for Dijon but this time on D Roads, and came upon Humes, by the tiny River Mouche. And there was another municipal site, tiny, deserted except for two Dutch couples in caravans, so this was our choice. Only just over 10 Euros, pleasant walk, if you keep off the main road which seemed full of heavy vehicles. Railway track nearby but not very busy. Couple of goats amused us on our walk. Successfully, for a time anyway, achieved pictures from Astra and watched half of Wormwood Scrubs until it started raining and I tried to close the roof hatch, disturbing the cable, and messing up the signal. Drat. Never mind, at least it proved it works.
